Bulk WhatsApp Messages Without Getting Blocked
Why People Get Blocked
Meta blocks or skips messages for a few reasons, and almost all of them come back to permission and quality. If people did not ask to hear from you, report you, or stop reading, Meta notices. The goal is not to find a trick. It is to send to people who want the message.
Get Permission You Can Show
Every contact on your list should have said yes. That means an opt-in: a checkout box, a form, a WhatsApp message where they asked for updates. Importing a purchased list is the fastest way to a low quality rating, and a low rating reduces how many messages you can send.
Keep a note of where each contact came from. If Meta asks, you should be able to point to the moment they opted in.
Watch Your Quality Rating
Meta shows a quality rating for your number in Settings, and it moves as recipients react. A green rating means people are engaging. Yellow means some are blocking or reporting. Red means Meta limits you further. Check it before a big send, not after.
Know Your Messaging Limits
Meta also caps how many business-initiated conversations you can open per day, based on the number's history. The current tier and limit are shown in Settings. A new number starts at a low limit and grows as it sends without complaints. You cannot jump the queue by sending more.
Send to the Right People
- Split your list by what people actually want. A recent buyer and a newsletter subscriber are not the same audience.
- Use tags in Contacts so a campaign can target one group.
- Send the order update as a Utility template and the offer as a Marketing template. Never mix them.
- Keep the copy short and honest. No fake urgency, no prize language.
- Let people leave. If someone asks to stop, honour it immediately.
Why Some People Are Skipped
Even a clean list does not guarantee delivery. Meta limits how many marketing messages one person receives from all businesses, and it enforces that quietly. When a recipient is over the limit, the message is accepted and then reported as failed with a code rather than an error at send time.
In Wassapp that failure is explained in plain words on the campaign report, and it names the Meta code. It is not a bug and cannot be bypassed. The honest advice is to wait, or to send after the person replies to you, which opens a fresh service window.
The wallet is not charged for a message Meta does not deliver, so a skipped recipient does not cost you the platform fee.
Timing and Frequency
There is no perfect hour, but two rules help. Do not send a marketing message at an hour when a reply would wake someone. And space campaigns out. Three promotions in a week reads as spam even if each one is fine on its own.
Service messages, the replies inside a 24-hour window, are different. Those are answers, not interruptions.
A Simple Sending Calendar
You do not need a marketing calendar to stay in good standing. Two rules cover most of it:
- One promotional campaign a week, at most, per contact list.
- Space the promotional sends out by several days, so the same person is not messaged three times in a row.
Transactional messages are separate. An order update goes out when the order moves, not on a schedule, and Meta treats it differently from a promotion.
Reading the Campaign Report
After a send, the report is the honest scoreboard:
- Sent is how many messages left the system.
- Delivered is how many reached the phone.
- Read is how many were opened.
- Failed is how many Meta refused or could not deliver, with a reason for each.
A large gap between sent and delivered is not something to retry blindly. Open the failed list, read the reason, and fix the cause. A delivery failure under Meta's marketing limit means the recipient is over their own cap, and retrying the same day will usually fail again.
Copy That Does Not Get You Reported
- Say who you are in the first line.
- One clear reason to read the message.
- No shortened links that hide the destination.
- No emoji walls. One is plenty.
- An opt-out line in the footer where the message is promotional.
If Meta rejects a template anyway, the rejection guide turns the reason code into a fix.
What to Do With an Old List
Lists age. A contact who opted in two years ago and never engaged is not the same as a recent buyer, and Meta's quality rating notices the difference when they report you.
A simple routine helps: send nothing to a segment that has not opened a message in six months, and re-confirm the people who do. A smaller engaged list sends better and protects the number.
Measuring What Worked
The report is not only for failures. Compare the delivered counts between two campaigns to see which segment engaged, and compare read rates between two subject lines. Two or three sends give you a picture, and the numbers will not flatter a message people ignored.
After a Failure
When some recipients fail, read the reason before retrying. A send-time failure and a delivery failure are different problems. A delivery failure with Meta's marketing limit code means retrying now will probably fail again, so the retry asks you to confirm before it runs.
For everything else, fix the cause and retry only the failed recipients. Campaign reports list them and the retry sends to that group alone.
When Bulk Is the Wrong Shape
If your list is small and personal, a bulk campaign can feel cold. A service reply inside a 24-hour window often does better. If most of your messages are replies, the inbox and flows matter more than campaign timing, and the API versus app decision is worth a read in our comparison.
Frequently Asked Questions
### Will I get blocked for sending bulk messages?
Not for sending to people who opted in at a reasonable rate. You get limited for sending to people who did not, or for being reported often.
### How do I stop a contact from getting campaigns?
Ask them to reply STOP, or mark the contact opted out yourself. Opted-out contacts are skipped by campaigns automatically.
### Does a skipped message cost me?
No. The platform fee for a message Meta does not deliver is refunded to your wallet.
Meta's own rules on messaging limits are at https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp, and they are worth reading once before your first large send.
