What a 5,000 Message WhatsApp Campaign Costs in India
The Scenario
Say a clothing shop in Bengaluru wants to announce a sale to 5,000 people who opted in. The message is one marketing template with two variables: the customer's first name and a discount code. Here is the whole bill, using Meta's published India rates and our flat platform fee.
Every number below comes from the pricing configuration this site prices with, the same one on the pricing page. Nothing here is typed by hand.
The Two Charges
A campaign message has two parts:
- Meta's charge for the message, billed by Meta on your Meta payment method.
- Our platform fee, debited from your prepaid wallet.
Meta's India rate for a marketing message is ₹0.86. Our platform fee is ₹0.20 per template message sent from a campaign.
The Arithmetic
For 5,000 marketing messages:
| Line | Per message | 5,000 messages |
|---|---|---|
| Meta's marketing rate | ₹0.86 | ₹4,315.50 |
| Our platform fee | ₹0.20 | ₹1,000 |
Meta's charge for 5,000 marketing messages at the India rate is ₹4,315.50. Our platform fee for the same send is ₹1,000.
What Leaves Your Wallet
The wallet is debited for the platform fee only: ₹1,000 for 5,000 messages, taken as one debit when you confirm. Meta's ₹4,315.50 is billed by Meta on the payment method you added in Meta Business settings. Two charges, two places, shown separately before you send.
If you recharge the wallet, recharges from ₹1,000 earn bonus credit, so the effective platform cost can be lower than the list fee.
The Same Campaign in Other Categories
Marketing is the most expensive category. Utility and authentication messages, the transactional ones, cost ₹0.12 at Meta in India. A service reply inside the 24-hour window costs ₹0.12 after 1,000 free service messages a month, and carries no platform fee from us.
So an order-update blast to the same 5,000 people costs ₹575 at Meta instead of ₹4,315.50. Same list, same size, different job.
What Is Not Charged
- Replies from a customer do not cost you anything from us.
- Our platform fee applies only to template messages sent from a campaign.
- A message Meta does not deliver is refunded. If Meta skips a recipient under its marketing limit, the platform fee comes back and the report says so.
- Rejected templates cost nothing. Review is free.
A Smaller Realistic Send
Most first campaigns are smaller. For 500 marketing messages: Meta ₹431.55, our platform fee ₹100, wallet debit ₹100. That is the shape of the bill at any size: a per-message Meta charge and a flat per-message platform fee.
Comparing Two Ways to Buy
There is a second way to buy WhatsApp messaging: a monthly subscription from a platform, usually with a bundle of conversations included. It is worth understanding which shape suits you.
If you send a steady, large volume every month, a subscription can look cheaper per message, because the platform absorbs the risk. If your volume is seasonal, uneven or small, the pay-per-message model wins, because you pay nothing in a quiet month.
With pay per message there is no monthly minimum, no plan and no wasted allowance. A month with one campaign costs one campaign. A month with none costs nothing from us.
How the Wallet Top-Ups Work
The wallet behaves like a prepaid phone balance, not a credit line.
- Recharge an amount from the wallet page. Payment runs through Razorpay and supports UPI, cards and net banking.
- Recharges above the bonus threshold earn extra credit, so the effective platform fee drops.
- When you confirm a campaign, one debit is taken for the whole send, not one per message.
- If a message Meta does not deliver is refunded, the credit returns to the same wallet balance.
Every movement appears in the wallet ledger, and each recharge carries its own reference, so a duplicate webhook cannot credit the same payment twice.
What Changes the Bill Most
Three things move the number more than anything else:
- The category. A marketing message costs several times a utility message in India.
- The list size. The fee is per message, so the bill scales with the audience, not with the number of campaigns.
- The delivery rate. Failed recipients are refunded, so a send that reaches fewer people costs less. That is not a reason to send badly; it is a reason not to fear a bad day.
When the Numbers Change
Meta reviews its rates and can change them by market. Our pricing page and this post read from the same configuration, which was last checked against Meta's card on 2026-10-13. If Meta publishes a new India card, both update together, and the calculator on the pricing page always shows the current figures.
Sanity-Checking the Bill
Before any large send, do the arithmetic once by hand:
- Multiply the list size by the platform fee. That is the wallet debit.
- Multiply the list size by Meta's rate for the category. That is Meta's own charge.
- Add the two for the full cost of the campaign.
If the wizard shows something very different from your arithmetic, stop and read the category and the recipient count again. A marketing template sent to a Utility audience costs several times what you planned.
Where to Check the Current Rates
Rates are published per market by Meta, and this site keeps them in one configuration so the calculator and these posts never disagree. If a number here ever looks stale, the pricing page is the one to trust, and it points at Meta's own card so you can compare.
Where the Money Goes on a Bad Send
If a send fails, the useful question is what you are still charged for. A message Meta accepts and then reports as failed is refunded to your wallet, so a skipped recipient costs you nothing. A message that never left because your wallet was short was never charged at all. The campaign report shows the failed count and the refund line.
